PHONOTYPE – the visual identity of a language according to its phonology

The experimental and functional support that Typography can offer

Samenvatting: Our Western culture will develop more into a cultural mix. To facilitate the learning of a new language, a new graphic system, Phonotype, has been developed within the typeface Times new Roman. It visually represents the pronunciation difficulties for the Dutch language. By making adjustments and additions to the visual structure of a typeface, language can develop its own visual identity based on its phonology, which is both functional and aesthetically new.
